Wakefield College is currently developing a new skills academy which will, provide lifelong learning opportunities for post-16 education. 

At the former Glasshoughton colliery site close to Xscape, at J32 of the M62, Castleford.

The proposed facility will provide young people with the opportunity to develop new skills and obtain qualifications in many areas including construction, engineering, hairdressing and beauty therapy, business, computing, childcare, travel and tourism and retail. 

The academy is one of the key projects identified in the Five Towns' urban renaissance programme aimed at encouraging young people to take up opportunities to raise their level of skills.
