In September 2007 a masterplan for Featherstone was approved. The proposals within it are based upon the Strategic Development Framework prepared under the Yorkshire Forward Urban Renaissance Initiative.

The study, identifies key projects which can be implemented in the short term as well as those with a 10-15 year timescale. 

Its main aims are to:-

• Improve the retail offer
• Enhance the public realm and improve lines into the centre
• Expand housing provision
• Create enhanced gateways to the town
• Improve transport through Featherstone
