Castleford Bus and Rail Interchange

Wakefield Council is working in partnership with METRO to deliver a new bus rail interchange in Castleford. This will be sited on land next to the existing railway station in Castleford.

The new interchange is part of a package of transport improvement works within Castleford Town Centre and will help create an improved gateway into Castleford Town Centre.

The modern design will create a contemporary enclosed concourse with a travel centre sales kiosks and waiting area for trains and buses. The concourse will be staffed, with the benefit of monitored CCTV coverage.

The Department for Transport confirmed that the major scheme funding bid for the scheme has been successful and £14.3 million has been provisionally allocated to the scheme.

Aedas Architects appointed by METRO are preparing detailed designs for the new facility.  Planning approval for the scheme was granted in March 2007.

Following the necessary land acquisition the first phase of the work is programmed to start on site in early 2010 with the new bus rail interchange programmed for completion in 2011.

More information about the new interchange, with artists impressions, can be found on the Metro website (see 'Related Links').
