Wakefield in Bloom 2009

Wakefield in Bloom aims to make the district an even more attractive place in which to live, work and visit.

Glorious hanging baskets, floral displays and sustainable planting will bring splashes of colour and beautify streets across the district.

In 2007 Wakefield in Bloom was enthusiastically embraced by Horbury, Ossett, Pontefract, Castleford and South Elmsall. Wakefield city won a Silver Award in the regional Yorkshire in Bloom competition, with Thornes Park gaining a special Discretionary Award.

In 2008 the city built on this success, winning a Silver Gilt Award in the competition and Pontefract entered for the first time in many years and successfully earned a Bronze Award.

The Wakefield in Bloom initiative is project managed by Wakefield Council’s Urban Centres Management (UCM) team. To find out more about how you can support Wakefield in Bloom or become involved in sponsoring a project please contact us.
