Dangerous Structures

Buildings can become dangerous at any time of the day or night. There are many reasons why a structure may suddenly become potentially harmful such as:-

  • Poor maintenance
  • Failure of a building component
  • Damage through weather, fire or vehicles
  • Subsidence
  • Vandalism
  • Explosion
  • Unsafe construction methods.

We operate a 24-hour emergency callout service for both the public and the emergency services to attend reported dangerous buildings.

If you discover such a building contact:-

Office hours: 01924 306568
or
Out of Hours: 08458 506 506

Usually Building Control Surveyors arrange for the owners of such a building to undertake the necessary work to remove the hazard. In some instances, however, owners cannot be traced, or cannot undertake immediate action, Building Control will arrange for its own contractors to remove the danger.

In such circumstances costs incurred by the Council are recovered/recharged to the owner of the property.
