Wakefield Council appoints its new mayor
Cllr Stuart Heptinstall has been appointed as the Mayor of Wakefield.
Cllr Heptinstall represents the Wakefield East ward and was in the mining industry throughout his working life. He is being supported by his granddaughter, Charlotte Heptinstall, as the Mayoress.
The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Charles Keith, who represents Wrenthorpe and Outwood West ward. He began his working life as an apprentice gas fitter, and for the last 39 years has been self-employed. He is being supported by his wife Grace as the Deputy Mayoress.
Cllr Peter Box CBE, Leader of Wakefield Council, congratulated both Cllr Heptinstall and Cllr Keith and wished them well for their term of office.
Cllr Box said: "I hope they enjoy their year in office and am sure they will represent the district with dignity and commitment."
