Christmas closures

Wakefield Council is focusing on providing essential services for those that need them the most between Christmas and New Year.

Non-essential services will be closed from 5pm on Friday 22 December and will reopen on Tuesday 2 January.

Merran McRae

Merran McRae, Wakefield Council’s Chief Executive, said: “Many of our services are used very little over the festive period. That is why we have decided to close non-essential services again this year. By closing these facilities, savings can be made on things such as heating and lighting costs.”

Essential Council services will continue to be provided between Christmas and New Year. This includes home care, residential care, children’s social work, the Council’s Contact Centre and emergency response teams, including gritting.

Mrs McRae added: “It is vitally important that we keep essential services open for those who need them. We will protect vulnerable people, work to keep roads open in winter weather and collect household waste.
