Home owners to benefit from improvement loans
A new loan scheme to help vulnerable home owners make their homes warmer and more energy efficient is to be introduced into the Wakefield district.
At a meeting senior councillors agreed to approve a new Regional Energy Repayment Loan scheme.
The interest-free loan will enable home owners to take measures to keep their homes warm and to save on heating costs in the longer term, by installing insulation and a replacement boiler.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration at Wakefield Council, said: "In the winter months it is especially important that homes are warm and affordable to heat.
"We are aware that some home owners are in a vulnerable situation. But by having access to an interest-free loan it will enable them to make vital improvements to make a real difference to their homes."
The new scheme supports the Council's long term plan to help householders to reduce the risk of falling into fuel poverty and improving home energy efficiency.
People will be able to apply for the loan on 03449 030 222 and information will be on the Council's website in December at: www.wakefield.gov.uk/energy
