Christmas parking in 2017

21/11/2017, PR8697

Wakefield Council has announced that free parking is on offer in December to make it easier and more affordable for people to do their Christmas shopping in the district.

Free parking is available in Council parking areas in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford, in December on Thursdays from 3pm, until Christmas.

Cllr Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: "We want to encourage more people to do their Christmas shopping locally.

"That's why we're offering everyone free parking, again this year in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford in the run-up to Christmas.

"We hope that this will give a boost to our local retailers and benefit residents and visitors."

The Council's on-street parking spaces and its own car parks in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford, will be free after 3pm on December 7, then on December 14 and December 21.

Signs will be displayed on, or next to, parking payment machines to publicise the dates for free parking. The free parking offer does not include privately-run car parks or Merchant Gate multi-storey car park.
