Consultation launched on new taxi testing standards
Wakefield Council is asking for residents' views on revising vehicle testing standards for taxi cabs and private hire vehicles in the district.
The Council is proposing to make the changes so that it can update its guidance, as part of its commitment to ensuring that passengers and drivers are safe when travelling.
People can take part in the consultation, which is open until December 13. See www.wakefield.gov.uk/about-the-council/have-your-say/taxi-consultation
The proposals include updating testing standards. Existing taxis, also known as hackney carriages, and private hire vehicles that are already licensed by the Council would be offered a 12 month period to comply with the new standards.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Corporate Services at Wakefield Council, said: "I'd like to encourage as many people as possible, including passengers and drivers to share their views on these proposed changes by taking part in this consultation."
