Council urges residents to respond to electoral canvass letters

Wakefield Council is reminding residents to respond to letters to ensure they are on the electoral register.

Households that needed to respond to the original request but haven’t yet done so, will receive a reminder letter next week. Residents are asked to respond to this second form by Friday 20 October, otherwise they will receive a visit from a canvasser to collect the information.

The information is being collected to ensure that their details are accurate on the 2018 electoral register, which will be published on 1 December 2017.

Merran McRae, Wakefield Council’s Electoral Registration Officer, said: “Nearly half of households haven’t yet responded to the request. It is important to respond to the reminder letter, otherwise you will receive a visit from one of our electoral canvassers, which costs the public money.

“If you need any support to fill in your form please contact our electoral services team who will be happy to help.”

Residents will be able to respond to the letters online at
www.hef-response.co.uk.

With local elections taking place in the Wakefield district next May, this is an important opportunity for residents to make sure that they are able to vote.
