Tigers in town to celebrate improvements to Castleford
A celebration is
being held to mark the completion of a £500k improvement programme in
Castleford town centre.
Players from Castleford Tigers will be in the town on Saturday 16 September to
help unveil 26 new planters, which are in the black and amber colours of
Castleford’s much-loved rugby league club, who recently won the 2017 League
Leaders Shield. The names of players both past and present are also
commemorated on the planters.
The planters are just one part of the Castleford town centre improvement
project, which has also included new seating, lighting, bins and resurfacing to
the pavements and roads.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Regeneration, said: "Castleford is a great place and this extra investment boost has really made a difference to the town centre.
"We are all very proud of our rugby league team and are delighted to mark their fantastic contribution to the sport and the town with the new planters."
Joining Cllr Jeffery on the day will be coach Daryl Powell, players Michael Shenton and Andy Lynch, coach and former player Danny Orr, Chief Exec Steve Gill, and a number of former players.
The celebration will take place from 1.30pm on Saturday 16 September at the top of Sagar Street.
