Plans progressing for Ings Road improvement scheme

14/08/2017, PR8627

Wakefield Council is proposing plans for a £4m improvement scheme for Ings Road, Wakefield, between Kirkgate and Charlesworth Way.

The Council is putting together the proposals for the investment in the Wakefield roads, to make improvements for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

A feasibility study is now underway to develop improvement options. A public consultation will then take place next year.

The scheme will be fully funded through the West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s Transport Fund.

Cllr Matthew Morley, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, said: “I am pleased that we have started feasibility work to develop options for the £4m scheme for Ings Road. Improvements to the road will help to tackle congestion in this part of the city. Once we have more details on the options available we will be consulting with local businesses and residents about these.”

Subject to relevant approvals, the scheme could be started in 2019.
