Ahoy there - the seaside is coming back to Wakefield and Castleford
Buckets and spades at the ready, as the seaside is coming back to Wakefield and Castleford this summer.
A weekend of seaside family fun returns to Wakefield Cathedral Precinct on Saturday 12 August, 10am to 5pm and Sunday 13 August, 10am to 4pm.
The beach is also back in Castleford on Saturday 19 August, 10am to 4pm.
Dig out those flip flops as both seaside events will have a big beach for making sandcastles. There's also free donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face painting, children's rides and much more.
Cllr Jacquie Speight, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport
Cllr Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "There's no need to venture to the coast this summer, as the seaside is making an exciting return to Wakefield and Castleford this August.
"There are so many fun-filled free activities on offer and we hope lots of families can join us for a great time at our seaside."
There will also be free family fun workshops taking place and a variety of market stalls and food on offer. This year's street entertainment will include giant seagulls and seaside-themed stilt walkers.
At the Wakefield seaside there will also be an interactive circus tent and free side stalls hosting hook a duck, a coconut shy and ring toss.
Joining the fun at the Castleford seaside this year are bumper cars.
Visitors can share their photos on the events Facebook page www.facebook.com/eventsinwakefield or using #WakefieldSeaside or #CastlefordSeaside on Twitter.
