Half-term activities for children across the district
A series of family activities to entertain youngsters over the half-term break, including music inspired crafts and bike hire, are available at Wakefield Council venues.
Cllr Jacquie Speight, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "We have a range of activities for children to enjoy over the holiday. So get the dates in your diary and join in the fun."
At Wakefield Museum children can follow a Teddy Bear trail and learn about toys from the collection on Tuesday 30 May from 10am - 2pm. They can explore historical sporting artefacts on Wednesday 31 May from 10am - 2pm, and learn about making music through crafts on Thursday 1 June from 10am - 11.15am and from 1.30pm - 2.45pm. There's also the opportunity to play Viking games on Friday 2 June from 10am -11.30am or 1.30pm - 3pm. Children can create Iron Age artwork on Tuesday 30 May and make a Roman mosaic coaster on Thursday 1 June at Castleford Museum. Both sessions are from 10am - 4pm.
The first secret ballot vote took place in Pontefract, and youngsters are being encouraged to come to a session to create comic style art to mark the event. This is at Pontefract Museum on Wednesday 31 May from 10am -3pm. Young people can also learn about Civil War swords at the Museum on Friday 2 June from 11am - 2pm.
Youngsters can relax at fun float sessions from Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June at Normanton Leisure from 1pm - 2pm; at Sun Lane Leisure from 1.15pm - 2.45pm; at Pontefract Swimming Pool from 2.00pm - 3pm and at Featherstone Sports Complex from 1pm - 2pm.
At Pugneys Watersports Centre families can try dinghy sailing, windsurfing and kayaking throughout the week. Bike hire is also available at Pugneys and at Thornes Park. The play area at Pugneys is also open for children to enjoy.
