Wakefield Council introduces pay by phone for parking in pay and display parking areas
People will be able to pay for parking using their debit or credit card, in addition to paying by cash, at Wakefield Council's pay and display car parking areas.
Those using the Council's car parking areas now have the additional option of using their debt or credit card to pay via a smartphone app, the phone service, by text message and through the website for parking on the Council car parks and on street pay and display areas. This is in addition to still being able to pay by cash.
Cllr Matthew Morley (pictured), Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways at Wakefield Council, said: "We are introducing cashless parking to make it easier for residents, businesses and visitors to pay for their parking in Council cark parks.
"It's not always possible to find the right change and with many people now using mobile phones, this could be a more straight-forward and easy way for some of us to pay for our parking.
"People will still be able to pay by cash - but this is giving them another choice."
All customers wishing to use the new cashless system will need to register using the free smartphone app, visiting www.myRingGo.co.uk/register or by calling 020 3046 0010.
Once registered, people will only have to provide the location code of where you are parked from signs at the pay and display machines and the length of time you want to park. Small charges apply for using the service.
