New museum hub in South Elmsall
Museum hub coming to South Elmsall library
Wakefield Council is
launching a new museum hub at South Elmsall library on Friday 21 April.
The new museum hub will bring a permanent museum offer to the South East of
the district. It will initially include objects from all time periods from the
local area, including Anglo-Saxon finds to 20th century ornaments. There will
also be a display of historic photographs of the local area and residents are
able to add to this collection.
Cllr Les Shaw,
Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “We
are delighted to be able to bring a museum offer to the south east of the
district, utilising some of the space we have available at South Elmsall
“The collections will bring some local history to the area, revealing some
fascinating stories. There will also be a display of old photographs from the
area. We invite residents to share their stories to add to this collection of
On Friday 21 (9.30am-5pm) and Saturday 22 April (10am-1pm) a pop-up
‘Time-Travelling Team Room’ will run alongside the new museum hub where
memories can be shared over tea and cake. Extra time-travelling sessions will
take place in April and May.
