Wakefield Council is reminding residents over 60 of the Government's Winter Fuel Payment, to help stop them falling into fuel poverty.
Wakefield residents could be eligible for support of £100 to £300 tax-free, to help pay for heating bills.
These 'winter fuel payments' are available to those born on, or before 5 May 1953. Those that receive State Pension or another social security benefit usually receive the Winter Fuel Payment automatically. This does not apply to those on Housing Benefit, Council Tax Reduction, Child Benefit or Universal Credit.
Those that qualify for the payment but do not receive another social security benefit, will need to make a claim.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Skills, said: "Everyone aged over 60 will be able to receive the Winter Fuel Payment. If you have not received it automatically, then contact the national helpline to claim your payment."
To claim Winter Fuel Payment, or for more information, call 03459 15 15 15.
