Official opening of the new play area in Langthwaite Lane, South Elmsall
Pupils from St Peter and Paul's School helped to re-open a new play area in South Elmsall, Pontefract.
Following discussions with the local community about facilities for youngsters, Wakefield Council has funded improvements at the Langthwaite Lane playground.
The old equipment was replaced with modern robust steel equipment - which is split into two zones for toddlers and juniors.
Cllr Richard Forster, Deputy Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities at Wakefield Council, who opened the playground with the school children, said: "These are fantastic new facilities for the local community and I'm sure the children will have a great time exploring all the different elements."
Work is also underway to improve play facilities at Outwood Park. Wakefield Council teamed up with Friends of Outwood Park to secure funding from the WREN organisation.
Improvements are being made to a footpath around the play area and to the steps near the tennis court. New park benches and a multi-play piece and see-saw will be installed. A junior multi-play piece of equipment has been designed for children aged five years and above and includes a slide, fireman's pole, and rope ladders. The work is expected to be completed in mid January.
