Drop into Local Offer Live 2016
Ref: PR 8407
An information event for carers and professionals who support children and young people with special education needs and disabilities takes place in Wakefield this month.
Over 7,000 school-aged children have Special Education Needs and or Disabilities (SEND) in the Wakefield district.
The 'Local Offer' was set up in 2014 as part of the SEND reforms and was developed with parents, carers and young people. It helps to support children and young people aged between 0-25 years old.
The Local Offer Live 2016 event is at the Cedar Court Hotel Wakefield on 29 November, from 10am- 2pm. Parents, carers and guardians can find information on a range of education, health and social care services. Information on services includes Family Fund, learning support, activities and things to do, transport, post 16 education, special schools and specialist provision.
The event has been put together by Wakefield Council, TEAM Wakefield Parent Carer Forum, KIDS (the disabled children's charity) and Oakfield Park School.
Cllr Olivia Rowley, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "This is an informal event which offers lots of useful information, guidance, support and advice to parents, carers and young people with special needs and disabilities.
"We had great feedback last year from people who came along, and we'd encourage people to come along, have a chat and find out more."
