Pontefract and Castleford Christmas lights switch-ons
Christmas is coming to Pontefract and Castleford - with the switching on of Christmas lights and special festive markets.
The popular annual events aim to encourage families to come into the town centres, to shop and join in a range of fun activities.
The celebrations will see each town holding a seasonal market starting at 10am - which will give people the chance to buy gifts, along with a selection of treats including hot street food and drinks. The events will also feature entertainment and live music from a local radio station.
Pontefract's Christmas lights' switch-on is taking place on Monday November 21 at 6.30pm in the town centre. Among the attractions will be donkey rides, children's activities in the library and a Santa's grotto at St Giles Church.
Castleford's lights will be switched on at 5.30pm on Tuesday November 22 in the town centre. The event will include a dance troupe, mascots and a community lantern parade. Players from Castleford Tigers will also be attending.
Cllr Les Shaw, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "The lights switch-ons and Christmas markets mark the start of the festive period and provide an opportunity for families and friends to get together, to enjoy the entertainment and the shopping experience. We want to encourage everyone to come along, join in, and have a great time."
