Free half-term theatre for families comes to district’s libraries
Ref: PR 8366
Council libraries in the Wakefield district are inviting families to register for free theatre-events taking place over half-term.
Celebrations are happening across the nation to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death with special events and activities.
To help mark the occasion, Satellite Arts is performing its version of Shakespeare's The Tempest, which features a pair of comical grandparents putting on a show using a model theatre.
The show is for families and children aged 5-11 and will be followed by a workshop. Places need to be booked in advance by contacting the local library.
Toy Theatre Tempest will be at:
- South Elmsall Library Monday 24 October, 2pm - 4pm (Tel: 01977 723220)
- Hemsworth Library Thursday 27 November 10am - 12noon ( Tel: 01977 722270)
- Normanton Library Thursday 27 November 2pm - 4pm (Tel: 01924 302525)
Additionally, children under 7 can see Hey Presto! which brings all the fun of the fair to Airedale Library.
Based on the popular picture book by author-illustrator Nadia Shireen the play follows two best friends, who join in the fair with their amazing magic act. The show is a huge success, but what happens when fame goes to one of the friend's head?
The show is on Monday 24 October at 11.30am and 2.30pm. Tickets are free but booking is essential. Contact Airedale Library on 01977 724040 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
Cllr Les Shaw, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "It's great to give children the chance to experience new things including theatre which fire up their interest and imaginations. I'm pleased our libraries are able to offer such a variety of activities to help inspire the next generation."
