Temporary closure of Ossett Library

Date:05/09/2016

Ref: PR 8332a

Ossett Library is temporarily closed as building work takes place.

Preparations for a library refurbishment which started last week, found asbestos in the ceiling.

As a precautionary measure Wakefield Council brought forward its planned temporary closure for the refurbishment project.

Air quality testing in the building has been carried out with the results showing there is no health risk to people.

A full survey is being undertaken to identify the extent of the asbestos and how it may affect the refurbishment programme.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and we are providing a mobile library service in the car park, in the short term, while the survey is carried out."

The mobile library will be parked in the car park of Ossett Library from Monday to Wednesday from 9am-4pm and on Friday from 9am-3pm.

For Ossett residents the nearest computer facilities will be available at Horbury Library, Westfield Road, WF4 6HP.

Books can also be renewed at any other local library, or on the Council website.
