Counting down to Seaside in the City
Ref: PR 8313
It's not long now until the seaside returns to Wakefield this summer.
On Saturday August 13 and Sunday August 14 the beach is back in Wakefield city centre for the free annual seaside event.
It's a chance for children to have fun with lots of activities including playing on the big beach making sandcastles. So bring your bucket and spade and join in the weekend fun.
There will also be free donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face painting, balloon modelling and free workshops. Plus a variety of market stalls and food providers.
This year's seaside-themed street entertainment will include stilt walking lobsters and walkabout pirates.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport at Wakefield Council, said: "This is always a hugely popular event and I hope once again lots of families will come and join in. So dig out your flip flops, sharpen up your sandcastle making skills for some free family fun as the seaside makes an exciting return to the district this August.
"Come and join us for a great time at our seaside."
Other attractions in Wakefield will include a Victorian carousel (a small charge applies) and a TV screen featuring the films Toy Story, Happy Feet and Madagascar.
Seaside in Wakefield is on Saturday August 13, 10am – 5pm, and Sunday August 14, 10am – 4pm. All activity takes place at the Wakefield Cathedral Precinct.
The seaside is also coming to Castleford on Saturday August 20, 10am-4pm, in the heart of Castleford town centre.
