Wakefield Council is asking residents to come and share their views as part of the work on the town's masterplan this week.

A public consultation event is being held at Carlton Lane Shopping Centre on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 July (10am until 2pm) where residents will be able to speak with Council officers and consultants about the plans and give their views. The exhibition boards and questionnaires will also be available at Castleford Forum Library from Monday 1 to Monday 15 August during opening hours.

The information gathered will be used to help prepare the masterplan, guiding future housing developments, creating new homes and employment opportunities.

Cllr Peter Box CBE, Leader of Wakefield Council said: "Future housing plans are being developed for Castleford and it is important that we hear the views of the local community to help us identify all the key issues and priorities for the area.

"The information that we have gathered so far, and that we will gather during the exhibitions, will help to shape a masterplan that benefits everyone.

"I encourage as many people as possible to come along and have their say, or take part in the consultation online. It is vitally important that we capture local people's views about the future of the town."

Once the masterplan is drafted, a second consultation event will be held later in the year where residents will be given the chance to give their final comments.

People can also take part in the consultation which opens online on 1 August and runs until 15 August www.wakefield.gov.uk/fivetowns
