Polling cards being delivered this week

Date: 29/03/2016
Ref: PR 8204

Wakefield Council will be delivering poll cards to households in the district from tomorrow (Wednesday 30 March). Any residents that do not receive their cards are asked to get in touch.

The polling cards are being sent out to all registered voters in the district. The cards include details of the local polling station and times of polling for the elections taking place in May.

Residents that receive a poll card for the May elections will also receive one for the EU Referendum which is taking place on Thursday 23 June.

Residents who have not received their poll cards by Friday 8 April, including anyone who has recently moved house, are asked to contact the Electoral Services Office on 01924 305023.

Joanne Roney OBE, Returning Officer, said: "Poll cards are being delivered to those that have registered to vote. If you don't receive yours then you will need to register. By registering you will be able to vote in the elections in May and the EU referendum in June – you do not need to register twice.

"Even if you think you are already registered, it's important to double check. Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn't true. Contact the Electoral Services Office to find out."

The Police and Crime Commissioner election is taking place on Thursday 5 May. On the same day one third of Wakefield Council's seats – 21 – will also be up for election.

The deadline to register to vote is Monday 18 April and residents need to ensure that they are correctly registered ahead of this deadline.

Residents who are unable to attend the polling station to vote, may be able to vote by postal vote or proxy. Please contact Electoral Services on 01924 305023 for more information.

Registering to vote is quick and simple. To register people will need to give their national insurance number. For further information about registering and voting please visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections
