Wakefield Council pays tribute to those affected by the attacks in Brussels

Wakefield Council has offered its condolences to those affected by the terror attacks in Belgium.

The Council paid its respects by lighting the Wakefield Town Hall clock tower to the colours of the Belgium flag – black, yellow and red.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Box CBE and the Mayor of Wakefield, Cllr June Cliffe MBE, have also sent a letter to The Belgian Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Guy Trouveroy, condemning the attacks.

Cllr Peter Box said: "The terrible events in Brussels on Tuesday morning are truly shocking. Those that have been affected are in our thoughts and prayers and we extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to them."

Council employees also showed their respects by honouring the Europe-wide one minute silence on Wednesday 23 March.
