Temporary closure of Ossett Library for refurbishment
Ref: PR 8203
Ossett Library will temporarily close later this Spring for refurbishment works to take place.
As part of the works, the library will benefit from new flooring and redecoration to create a lighter and brighter space. Some changes will be happening to the layout to make it easier for people to navigate around the library. It will also be recognised as a dementia friendly space.
Once reopened, the library will also play host to an improved local studies section. This will include new microfiche/film readers, storage for film and map drawers. Other improvements include new furniture and shelving.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "It is great news that Ossett Library will benefit from these improvements making it an even more modern and enjoyable space for visitors.
"We apologise for any disruption the refurbishment will cause, but hope all users to the library will enjoy the much improved facilities when it reopens. We also hope it will encourage new customers to come and see what it has to offer."
During the works the library will be temporarily relocated on the ground floor of Ossett Town Hall to help minimise disruption to library users.
The refurbishment is part of a whole series of improvements taking place in Council libraries across the district. Other facilities which have already benefitted from the improvements programme include Airedale, Featherstone, Wakefield, Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley, Stanley, Horbury, South Elmsall and Normanton.
The works at Ossett Library are expected to start in late Spring or early this Summer. Once the dates are known these will be publicised at the library and on the Council's website www.wakefield.gov.uk
During the temporary closure books can be renewed at any other local library, or on the Council website. For more information, including other library opening times, please visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/libraries or call 0345 8 506 506.
