Nominations for Wakefield Council by-election for the Pontefract North Ward

Nominations have now closed for the forthcoming Wakefield Council by-election for the Pontefract North ward.

Candidates standing for elections are:
• Lucy Victoria Brown – Yorkshire First
• Daniel Krstan Dearden – Trade Unionists &Socialists Against Cuts
• Nathan Garbutt – UK Independence Party (UKIP)
• Anthony David Hill – The Conservative Party Candidate
• Lorna Jane Malkin – Labour Party Candidate
• Daniel Woodlock - Liberal Democrats

The by-election takes place on Thursday, 24 September 2015, due to the resignation of Paula Sheriff MP, who in May was elected MP for Dewsbury.

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on 24 September and people can find details of the polling stations at www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections

Poll cards are being delivered in the ward from early September.
As this election is taking place during the Annual Registration Canvass, voters are encouraged to ensure that their details are correctly registered in order to ensure that they do not lose their vote.
 
Anyone who has recently moved or changed their details should contact the Electoral Services Team, to check their registration on 01924 305023.

Any new applications for postal votes need to be received by the Electoral Services Team by 5pm on Wednesday, 9 September. Proxy applications must be received by 5pm on Wednesday, 16 September. Anyone wishing to vote by post or proxy can contact the office for further information.

Joanne Roney, Wakefield Council's Chief Executive and Returning Officer for the election, said: "If you live in the Pontefract North ward, please make sure you use your vote on September 24."

The result of the by election will be available on the Council website at www.wakefield.gov.uk/elections on Friday, 25 September.
