Seaside in Castleford huge success

PR ref: 5040

An estimated 10,000 people headed into Castleford when Wakefield Council brought the seaside to the town for the first time.

The town centre was transformed into a beach resort with donkeys, sand, and a Punch and Judy show.
Other attractions included a fair ground and the opportunity to try out circus skills. Local businesses and market traders also got into the summer spirit to help make it a fantastic day for shoppers and families.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "I'm really pleased that so many people came to the first seaside in Castleford on Saturday. I spoke to a lot of people on the day and they were very impressed with the event. It was great to see children and adults having fun and enjoying the attractions."
