Seaside in the city is huge success
PR ref: 5033
Huge crowds descended on Wakefield when the Council brought the seaside to the city.
An estimated 40,000 people packed into the city centre over the weekend which had been transformed into a seaside haven with a beach, donkeys, bumper boats and a big wheel.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "It was great to see so many people having a great time at Seaside in the City and enjoying themselves.
"I also hope to see lots of people at Seaside in Castleford, on Saturday, which is the first time we've held a beach themed event in the town. I'm sure it will also be a fantastic day, and I'd encourage people to come and enjoy the fun."
Seaside in the City had many different activities for the whole family. Over the weekend adults and children also enjoyed live music, pirate hat and seashell tiara making, circus skills, deck chairs and a food and craft market.

The seaside comes to Castleford on Saturday 22 August, 10am - 4pm, and it's a time for people to get their bucket and spades ready to enjoy the beach and lots of other free attractions including Punch and Judy and donkey rides.
