The seaside is getting bigger
Ref: PR 5017
This year the seaside is coming back to Wakefield and due to its continuing success will be making its first appearance in Castleford.
On August 15 and 16 the beach is back in Wakefield city centre for its free annual seaside event. Wakefield Council is also delighted to announce that the seaside is coming to Castleford on Saturday August 22.
Bring a bucket and spade, as both seaside events will have a big beach for making sandcastles. There's also free donkey rides, Punch and Judy shows, face painting and balloon modelling. There will be a variety of market stalls, food providers and seaside-themed street entertainment.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "We may be far from the coast but we can still bring the seaside to the district. Get your flip flops ready and sharpen up your sand castle making skills for a weekend of free family fun as the seaside makes an exciting return to Wakefield this August.
"Due to the success of our previous Wakefield seaside events, we're also delighted to bring the beachside fun to Castleford. With so many fun-filled free activities on offer we hope lots of families can join us, and hopefully the sun will too."
The seaside in Wakefield takes place on Saturday August 15, 10am – 5pm, and Sunday August 16, 10am – 4pm. All the activity takes place at Wakefield Cathedral Precinct and includes bumper water boats, a Ferris wheel and free family workshops including pirate hat and seashell tiara making.
The seaside in Castleford takes place on Saturday August 22, 10am – 4pm, in the heart of Castleford town centre. The event also includes sand art family workshops and free children's rides.
Visitors to the events are invited to share their photos on the Facebook page www.facebook.com/eventsinWakefield or tweet pictures using #WakefieldSeaside or #CastlefordSeaside
