REF: PR 5016
Date: 28/07/2015

Yorkshire Day celebrations are taking over Pontefract on August 1.

Events are happening across the town from 9 am to 4 pm, with a variety of entertainment that the whole family can enjoy.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "Fancy welly wanging or maybe a bit of flat cap throwing? Then come to Pontefract for this special Yorkshire Celebration. There are plenty of fun activities to keep the family entertained and the whole town is involved with events happening in the town centre, Pontefract Museum, Pontefract Library and Friarwood Valley Gardens."

Families can enjoy donkey rides, face painting, craft workshops and sporting activities. Visitors can even bring their dog along and enter them into the Ponte Pooch Show. There's also a full outdoor market plus a food and craft market in the town centre.

Other activities include heritage walks at Pontefract Museum as 11am, 1pm and 2.30pm. A special conservation day at Pontefract Castle, and craft workshops and story time sessions at Pontefract Library, 11am- 4pm.

At Friarwood Valley Gardens there will be birds of prey, donkey rides, flat cap throwing, welly wanging, a bouncy castle and much more. So take a picnic and enjoy the day, 10am – 4pm.
