As the Council is set to celebrate Love Parks Week, Anglers Country Park and Haw Park Wood in Wintersett are to receive prestigious Green Flag Awards for 2015-16.

The Green Flag Awards, run by Keep Britain Tidy, are a sign to visitors that the park and woodland are well-maintained and well-managed, with excellent facilities.

This is the ninth consecutive year that Haw Park Wood has received the award and the eighth consecutive year for Anglers Country Park.

Cllr Maureen Cummings, Wakefield Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: "We are really proud to receive these awards, ensuring that residents and visitors have access to well-managed, high-quality green spaces.

"These open spaces are well deserving of this national recognition and the fact that they are winning this award year after year is testament to the hard work of those involved.

"Both Anglers Country Park and Haw Park Wood are a credit to Wakefield and these awards will hopefully encourage more people to visit them and see why they are award-winning."

Wakefield Council is supporting the national Love Parks Week campaign by hosting events and activities centred around the districts parks and green spaces. The Love Parks Week aims to raise awareness of the importance of parks and green spaces, showcasing the benefits they bring.

Residents are invited to take part in the celebrations marking Love Parks Week from Friday 24 July to Monday 5 August. Activities include; planned walks, runs and bike rides, festivals, pond dipping, family fun days and many more.
