Summer at Wakefield Museums
Ref: PR 5001
Wakefield's museums have lots for families to get involved with this summer holiday – all for free.
Wakefield, Castleford and Pontefract museums have an action-packed programme of events taking place to keep the family entertained throughout the school holidays.
Visit Wakefield Museum and explore the rainforest or cook up a treat in the 1950s kitchen. At Castleford Forum Museum imagine what life was like for a Roman soldier or step into the shoes of a miner. A trip to Pontefract Museum will take you back to the British Civil Wars, dress up and ride a horse into battle.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "School's out for summer so keep the children entertained with a fun-packed visit to your local museum. There are family activities happening in all of our museums throughout the school holidays and it's all free."
Residents are also invited to collect a free family pack from their local museum (available whilst stocks last). The packs contain activities, trails and news about what's on over the summer to keep the whole family entertained.
Other activities include free drop-in workshops to create pottery stamping, Roman intaglio, calligraphy and amazing animation.
