New Skate Park officially opens
We will be officially opening the newly built King George Skate Park in Castleford next week (16 March).
The project which has been done in partnership with The Friends of King George Field group and Wakefield District Housing (WDH) will see the new £90k skate park opened to the public with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The new facility offers a variety of riding experiences including a hipped bowl with extension, ramps, and a street section of grind blocks, ledges, handrail and a stair set. The rink is designed for riders of all abilities from beginners to advanced riders and can be used by all wheel types, including skateboarders, BMX riders, in-line skaters and scooters.
Cllr Maureen Cummings, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities said: "I am thrilled to see the skate park open to the public. This is great news for local people and will mean skaters and riders of all abilities can enjoy the new park.
"This is a really popular area and I look forward to seeing people come to the park."
Further minor landscaping and grass seeding work will be carried out at the park over the coming weeks as the weather improves.
The park will also hold a skating competition later in the year, which will be open to everybody including BMX cycle riders. People are asked to keep an eye out for posters and more information coming soon.
