PR4844

Thieves have broken into a temporary library, which was in the car park adjacent to Sandal Library.

The vehicle was vandalised and several items were stolen. Police are currently investigating the incident.

As a result Wakefield Council has had to find an alternative library provision, whilst Sandal Library is temporarily closed for a major refurbishment.

An additional mobile library stop will be introduced on Sparable Lane just outside the main library building. This will start on Friday 23 January. The dates and times when the mobile library will stop are:

23.1.15 – 11am-12pm
30.1.15 – 10am-11am
06.2.15 – 11am-12am

This pattern will be repeated on a three week cycle.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet member for Culture Sport and Leisure said: "The damage caused by the thieves means that this vehicle will be out of action for some time.

"We have tried our best to make alternative provision and hope customers will bear with us until the Library refurbishment it completed."

Customers are encouraged to use Wakefield Library while Sandal Library is closed. Wakefield Library is located in Wakefield One on Burton Street. Customers can also browse, reserve and renew items online, to do this visit http://www.wakefield.gov.uk/libraries
