Council celebrates young people
We have celebrated the success of young people in the district who completed the National Citizen Programme – a project based scheme helping youngsters develop their skills.
The celebration event which took place earlier this month saw 40 young people district complete their National Citizen Programme (NCS) and receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister.
The NCS scheme is funded by the government and helps to develop young people's confidence and skills through a range of projects and workshops.
Cllr Olivia Rowley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "This is a valuable life changing opportunity which helps young people to develop skills, learn new experiences and helps build confidence for children to get ready for the adult world of work."
As a part of the programme, projects have included young people participating in three social action and community projects. This has involved helping lay a new path in Fryston Woods to make the area more accessible for the public, designing art work and helping to redecorate the Brickhouse Youth Centre in Ossett, and delivering dance and cooking sessions for other youngsters.
Partners who have help support the scheme have included HQ Arts, The Youth Association and Next Generation.
