Recipes to feed your family for a fiver
A recipe book aimed at helping people feed their families for a fiver will be launched by local Councillors.
The food guide designed by residents in Ward five – the Havercroft, Ryhill, Crofton and Walton areas - will be launched by Councillors and Wakefield Together partners including Wakefield and District Housing and South West Yorkshire NHS Foundation Trust on Tuesday December 16 at 5.30pm in the Havercroft and Ryhill Community Learning Centre.
A total of nine recipes were created by the contestants and assessed by judges. The book includes recipes to make Brazilian rice and sausage meat footballs, panacalty, vegetable shepherd's pie – all of which can be prepared for less than five pounds.
Cllr Maureen Cummings Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, who organised the project said: "I am pleased at how well the feed your family for a fiver scheme has gone down with residents from the area.
"Often it can be difficult for people with busy lives to cook a meal from scratch but this new recipe book will provide step by step instructions to help families to eat healthy and change the way they think about food."
The feed your family for a fiver challenge was launched in 2013 with sixteen families signing up to the competition.
