Wakefield Council Leader responds to Autumn Statement

Commenting on the omission of any news about devolution for West Yorkshire in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement, West Yorkshire Combined Authority Chair and Wakefield Council Leader, Cllr Peter Box said:

"It's a case of no news being good news today because as I have made clear previously, my Combined Authority colleagues and I are determined that we get the right deal rather than one hurriedly put together to meet the artificial deadline of today's Autumn Statement.

"Devolution of powers and investment remains crucial to West Yorkshire and the Leeds City region achieving its full economic potential and we will continue our discussions with ministers to agree a deal that makes these possible and enables us to encourage the growth we are confident we can achieve.

"Generating new jobs, creating more, affordable housing and developing a 21st Century transport network remain central to the Combined Authority's aims "We have already shown where devolved local schemes are achieving better results than national initiatives and we need to build on this success."
