New play area for South Elmsall Market
New plans to build a play area in South Elmsall market have been announced.
The toddler and junior play area will include a separate table tennis table and is expected to be completed by spring 2015. As well as creating a meeting place within the market, the plans will also provide residents both young and old with the opportunity to get more active.
The Council is inviting residents to come down on market days between Friday 28 November and Friday 12 December to give their views on what they would like to see - items in the play area could include a climb and cross toddlerzone unit, spring seesaw or a bike springie.
Cllr Denise Jeffery, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Skills said: "I am delighted at these new plans to install a new play area at South Elmsall market which will help to increase footfall, boost sales for our traders and build on the success of our local economy.
"We are committed to improve our markets and these new plans will welcome more families to the market, provide a fun time for children as their parents shop. I am looking forward to seeing these plans being put into action."
As part of the consultation process, the Council is speaking with traders at the market to hear their views, as well as local members, the town Council, and the police.
An open day will be held to officially open the play area in 2015.
These plans follow refurbishment work at Normanton market which has included new signage being installed and stalls being refurbished.
