Victorian Christmas at Wakefield Museum

Date: 25/11/2014

The magic of a Victorian Christmas arrives at Wakefield Museum, Burton Street this Christmas. Families are invited to enjoy the Christmas traditions handed down by our Victorian ancestors.

The museum's Victorian kitchen will be transformed into a period Santa's Grotto, complete with a traditional Green Santa, on Friday December 12 and Saturday December 13 from 10am to 4pm.

The event, organised by Wakefield Council, will be a fun way to discover the original Victorian Christmas traditions, with craft activities, storytelling, discover curious Victorian objects and, of course, meet Santa himself to receive a small gift. It promises to be a very special experience.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "This is our first Victorian Christmas at the museum and I hope lots of families will come down and have a great time. There will be plenty of Victorian activities to keep the children entertained whilst waiting for their special opportunity to meet Santa".

The Victorian Christmas is free to attend, with donations being requested to support the Council's museum's collection fund.
