Wakefield's bonfire and firework event
Thousands of visitors are expected at Thornes Park to celebrate the district's official bonfire and fireworks display on Saturday 1 November.
Wakefield Council has worked closely with the fire service to ensure the display will be going ahead, against a background of potential industrial action, by fire crews, with the Council providing additional safety measures this year.
Cabinet Member for Culture, Tourism and Sport, Cllr Les Shaw said: "This is great example of how the Council and the fire service are working together to support a very popular event. I'm sure the display will be impressive and that everyone will have a great time."
This year the event starts at 6pm, the bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks will begin at 8pm. There is also a competition for the best Guy Fawkes with entries judged at 7.30pm.
There is no parking within the park. In the interest of safety, visitors are asked not to bring along alcohol or their own fireworks or Chinese lanterns.
