Wakefield Council backs National Adoption Week
Wakefield Council is backing National Adoption Week, (November 3 - 9) which is encouraging more people to come forward to give a child a loving and permanent home.
Across the district, as many as 20 children and young people are in need of a new home because they can't live with their birth family.
Last year a total of 25 children were adopted by 24 adopters via Wakefield Council's adoption service.
Cllr Olivia Rowley, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "Adoption is a fantastic way to create a family. With more children than ever entering the care system, there is a continued need for adoptive parents
"Adoption is hugely rewarding and I would urge anyone who has been thinking about it, to go along to one of our drop-in events, meet social workers and people who have adopted and find out more."
Adopters don't need to be married, in a relationship, or in paid employment. They do need to be able to provide a loving and secure home to a baby, child, or young person.
Wakefield Council is holding a number of events to encourage prospective adopters to find out more.
Informal drop in sessions are taking place, with no appointment is necessary, on:
