Get Wakefield Moving proved to be wheel good fun at the weekend as thousands rode their way to the fun filled event.
Over 4000 people descended into Wakefield City Centre on Sunday (September 21) to enjoy an action packed day with roads closed for traffic free cycling, bike sculpture workshops run by Faceless, a music stage, rollapaluza, food and water stations, and chance to meet cycling groups from the Change 4 life team.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: “This was a great event which really got people energetic, active, and having fun at the same time.
“There was so much to do – and traffic free cycling proved to be a huge success as many families, children, and adults raced around the city centre - making the most of the freedom of the roads.
“It is important to remind everyone to exercise and get fit and we are really trying to get people to move more every day, get physically active and to improve their health.”
Steve Peters British Cycling's Recreation Manager for Yorkshire said: “This was a hugely popular event and we are pleased to have been part of such a fantastic day in the Wakefield district.”
The event took place in partnership with British Cycling – and residents are urged to share their pictures on the Councils Facebook and Twitter pages. www.facebook.com/wakefieldcouncil or @mywakefield on Twitter.
