Council urges young people to get reading

Date: 10/09/14

We are supporting ITV's Good Morning Britain Campaign to urge youngsters in the district to get reading.

As a part of the campaign, Airedale Library is inviting children to come and have a fun filled day on Saturday September 13, between 11am-1pm with several kids' activities, including getting creative and making diaries, participating in various games and taking home a copy of a 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid'.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport said: "It is fantastic that we are able to take part in this national campaign to get youngsters reading and enjoying the world of books to help develop their literacy skills.

"The giveaway of books at Airedale Library will really help children on their reading journey especially as there are currently more than a million readers of a Diary of a Wimpy Kid. With 50% words and cartoons it has a great appeal, and I would like to remind parents and carers to urge children to come and get reading."
