Castleford Swimming Pool temporarily closed following flooding

Ref: PR 4668
Date: 11/08/2014

Castleford Swimming Pool is currently closed following damage caused by localised flooding at the weekend.

Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "Unfortunately, flooding due to the adverse weather at the weekend has caused damage at Castleford Swimming Pool.

"We are working hard to establish the full extent of the damage and get the pool reopened as soon as possible, but it is likely to be closed for at least a week. We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

"We ask residents to visit our website for up to date information on when the pool will reopen before visiting."

The flooding has resulted in damage to the boiler, the hot water feed and has also contaminated the pool water. Once the damage has been repaired the pool will be cleaned and water samples taken to ensure the pool water is clear.
