Reminder - have your say on leisure facilities
Ref: PR 4637
Residents are being reminded that there is still time to have their say on leisure facilities in the district.
The Council launched a review into all its leisure facilities last year in response to the deteriorating condition of pools and continued cuts in Government funding.
The consultation is was initially open until August 1, however this has now been extended to August 12 to give more time to for residents to submit their needs and views as a part of the leisure services review before a final decision is made.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "There's still time to have your say on leisure facilities in the district. We'd like everyone to take part to help us provide the best for you in light of increasing financial challenges."
Residents can have their say online at www.wakefield.gov.uk/leisureconsultation or pick up a paper version from any Council swimming pool, sports centre, library or the Wakefield One Contact Centre.
Wakefield Council currently runs two leisure centres in Wakefield at Sun Lane and Thornes Park, and five others in Normanton, Featherstone, Pontefract, Castleford and Knottingley. Minsthorpe Pool closed last year after an inspection revealed it needed major repairs.
Following the consultation a report will be presented to the Council's key decision makers later in the year.
