Love Parks Week is being celebrated in our many parks and green spaces across the district with a busy programme of events and activities.

We're supporting the Love Parks Week campaign which aims to raise awareness of the importance of parks, showcasing the benefits they bring.

Residents are invited to take part in the celebrations from Friday 25 July to Sunday 3 August. Activities include; health walks, bike rides, pond dipping, children's activity sessions, family fun days and free play sessions.

Cllr Maureen Cummings, Cabinet Member for Environment and Communities, said: "The Wakefield district is home to award winning parks and open spaces. We have lots of exciting events and activities taking place during Love Parks Week giving residents the opportunity to discover and re-discover their local park.

"We hope as many people as possible take this opportunity to get outside this summer, use their local green spaces and promote pride in their local park. Our parks are also a fantastic way to get out in the fresh air and get active."

During Love Parks Week we are also offering two for the price of one admission for bowls, putting, pitch and putt and tennis at Thornes Park. And golf, tennis and fishing at Pontefract Park. Only one game needs to be purchased to receive a voucher for another game free of charge. All vouchers must be redeemed on or before August 28.
