Have a sweet summer at the Pontefract Liquorice Festival
Ref: PR 4606
Pontefract Liquorice Festival returns again this summer with a whole host of children's workshops and activities to keep the kids entertained.
Now in its 19th year, the event takes place on July 13 between 10am and 4pm in Pontefract town centre and promises to be lots of fun for all the family.
There will be all sorts of family fun on offer including free children's workshops to make sweetie-themed puppets, the chance to create and model special sweets out of Noodle Doodles and a liquorice jewellery making workshop. Budding scientists can also take part in the lemon sherbet experiment and taste the results.
There will also be face painting, an imagination gaming workshop and an historical liquorice apothecary workshop, as well as a whole host of street entertainment including festival favourite Lucy Liquorice.
Cllr Les Shaw, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Sport, said: "This year's festival promises to be a real sweet treat for all the family. I hope as many people as possible come along to see what we have to offer and join in the many activities available. So pop the date in your diary and join us to celebrate all things liquorice."
Over 80 market stalls will be offering the opportunity to purchase food, drink, handmade crafts, fair-trade gifts including liquorice beer, liquorice sweets, liquorice cordial and liquorice fudge.
The festival, believed to be the only one of its kind in the world, celebrates Pontefract's historic association with this Middle Eastern plant.
